COMIC RELIEF 2009!

Costello's Do Something Funny For Money!

THE PIE EATING CONTEST!

We will be taking on the credit crunch this week to try and raise some extra cash for Comic Relief. It'll be our first fundraising event so hopefully we will pull it off!

We have decided, in the end, what better way is there for us to raise money, than to hold a Pie Eating Contest.

On Friday 13th March (Red Nose Day) all of the staff at Costello’s will be powering up their trusty rolling pins to produce even more of their hand made pies so that they can be devoured by the public who will be entering the contest.

We first had the idea one morning in the bakery that we could help raise money by holding some sort of event in the shop. After several ideas we came up with the pie eating contest. It seemed quite obvious really!

Because of the current financial situation we figured that it may be harder than ever to raise money for charity and that now is a time for everybody to pull together and do what they can. With the Comic Relief theme being “do something funny for money” we thought people could do with something fun to look forward to as well. We’re all really looking forward to the contest. We intend the day to be a Comic Relief extravaganza by offering Red Nose Buns for 50p each (which will all go to the charity) and a guess the caption on the photo competition too. We have already raised £120 in red nose sales alone. We have a really good team here and I am confident we can do a good job in raising money as well as putting a smile on people’s faces at the same time.

THE CONTEST

The contest will be a timed race to eat one of Costello’s steak pies and will be £2.50 to enter which will be donated to Comic Relief. We will start the contest at 10am and keep the pies coming until 4pm. Each contestant will be entered into a timed heat in the style of a 100m sprint and the first to finish will be given a finishing time. At the end of the day the contestant with the fastest time will be supreme champion and will be presented with a £30 voucher to spend at Costello’s as a prize. A contestant is deemed to have finished when all of the pie is gone and their mouth is empty. The umpires decision will be final. In the event of a tie there will be a “Pie Breaker” to decide a winner. Each fastest time will be put up on a leader board so you can see the time you have to beat.

OTHER EVENTS

Aswell as the contest we will also be holding other events...

1.  Invent a caption for the photo competition where we will display a photo in the shop and people can donate £1 to comic relief to have a go at coming up with a funny caption to go with it. The winning caption will be framed with the photo and put up permenantly on the shop wall for all to see.

2.  Guess the weight of the Easter Cake competition. Customers will be invited to donate £2 to Comic Relief and guess the weight of a special Rich Fruit Easter Cake we have made and the winner (the person with the closest guess) will win the cake!

3.  If you just dont fancy having a go you can always come along as a spectator and munch on one of our special Red Nose Day Buns (50p for Comic Relief) while you watch!

We hope you can make it and help us raise a sizable donation for this years Comic Relief
